What to do in regards to fall maintenance around the garage?
First thing to do is spray overhead door lubricant on the rollers and track of your overhead door(s). While you’re at it, spray the hinges on all walk-in doors to ensure quiet and smooth operation in the future. Also spray the torsion spring, which helps extend the life of the spring. Torsion springs tend to dry out over time, which can cause binding and breaking if not sprayed once to twice a year.
We encourage all homeowners to have gutters installed on their garage; now’s the time to make sure those gutters are free of leaves and debris.
Fall is also the best time of year to wash or rinse off your siding; the last of the high humidity days and before the frozen days arrive. Wash with the intent of removing any mold that may have started during the hot summer months.
Vinyl siding may be washed with a mild soap and water mixture to remove dirt and dust.
Soil and grime can be removed with your garden hose and a bucket of soapy water.
Mold and mildew can be removed with the following solution:
1/3 cup of laundry detergent
2/3 cup of Soilax
One quart of Clorox
Three quarts of water(Greater concentrations may cause damage to siding so use caution. If the above solution does not readily remove stains, check with your local hardware store for a mold and mildew type cleaner)
Lastly, it is a great time of year to reorganize and sweep out the inside of your garage so you have easy access to all of your winter items, whether it be your snow shovel or your snow mobile for a little fun on a snowy day.
Hope these tips were helpful and that you have a great fall season.
