One car garage…one and one half car garage…two car garage…two and one half car garage…
Coach House doesn’t market garages based on these terms as they can be misleading to the consumer. For example, a building that someone would call a two and one half car could be called a one and one half car by someone else. So how do you deal with this dilemma?
Best case is use the actual size of the building. A building that is 18′ x 20′, for example, could be called a two and one half car garage. A building that is 24′ x 30′ can be also be called a two and one half car garage. The cost difference between the two would be significant even though they could be called the same thing. Always request the actual dimensions of the building in terms of feet, not car sizes.
Cars are all different shapes and sizes. The only accurate way is to use the actual measurement. Then you can compare and make sure the size of the building is what you need. Some times people use the overhead door as the type of garage it is. A 16′ x 7′ overhead door will be referred to as a double door and the building as a two car garage. Again this is misleading in that door would fit in a 20′ x 20′ building as well as a 30′ x 40′ building, with a large difference in the cost to build. The 16′ x 7′ overhead door is considered a door that two cars can drive into, but it does not make it an official two car garage. This issue is one of the many things that needs to be communicated prior to making an educated decision when purchasing a garage.
A free consultation is used to discuss the size of building that will best fit your needs. In addition to size requirement there is a whole list of things that need to be considered prior to purchasing a garage such as zoning set backs, building codes, site design, ground water runoff, elevation, turning radius, existing trees and a whole list of things to consider before you invest in a home improvement such as a garage.
Be careful of the jargon that some use, make sure you understand what it is that you are getting for your money.
